outside where i can get sick from it. What are my other options for staying in shape in the aerobic category besides getting a tredmel or having to buy some equipment.

You will not get sick from running in the cold weather. You simply need to dress appropriately. Wear polypropelene underwear to wick away sweat beneath a nylon running suit, wear a polypro hat and face mask that you can remove when you get too warm. I have run thousands of miles in below zero weather when I lived at 10,000′ elevation in Colorado. If you can not bear to run in the cold, you can run on an indoor track at a recreation center. Or you can swim, which is great aerobic work. Or you can do aerobics by tape. There are endless possibilities for winter workouts. Do not pay attention to those who tell you to take pills or other crap. Exercise!
